Just how big is too big? In the matter I speak of is when it comes to a cast of characters. You see for my manga, I have my main character which the story mainly focuses and follows on; however, alongside him I have 12 other characters who the story also goes along with. Now is that way too many characters or is it alright?

I've been debating about this recently and whether I should cut some characters or leave as it be. On one hand, cutting down the characters could make the story easier to follow for some, and not confuse some readers and potential fans. On the other hand, it could give a nice variety of characters and different points of view and I've bonded with my characters ( I know that sounds really weird) so it's hard for me to just cut them off and let them go.

I know that usually a big cast of characters would have 6 maybe 7 characters, and One Piece has 9 characters. So including my main character, I would have 13 characters that would be considered the main cast. So I ask again, is that just way too much? What should I do so that I can include all my characters or do I really need to cut some for the readers' sake?

All depends on the story for one. there are major and minor characters for any story. all depends on if you can make each character unqiue and have a story for each. the more you make, the more work involved to keep things interesting.

Final call is up to the creator though, like what's your limit and capability while creating the story you want to tell. Most I'd go with, personally is 10, just so you have a decent set up of characters, but if you can do it, go all out and have fun

good luck though, I'm sure you can do it ^^
